Ramadan Fasting Times
Ramadan Fasting Times
Are you looking for information about Ramadan? According to Hilal Committee chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman, the holy month of Ramadan or Ramzan has begun. See below for information regarding Ramadan including the Ramadan calendar, Ramadan prayer times, Ramadan celebrations, and a Ramadan video message from Barack Obama.
The beginning of Ramadan is based upon the Islamic calendar and observing the first waxing crescent moon. Ramadan is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, sex, and indulging in anything that is in excess or “ill-natured”; from dawn until dusk. This year, according to the Ramadan calendar, it will begin on August 23rd and end with the feast of Eid on September 20, 2009. Even Barack Obama is getting in on Ramadan by pandering by sending a welcome message to all Muslims worldwide.
For those participating in Ramadan, the practice of “Fasting” is meant to teach the Muslim patience, modesty and spirituality. Ramaḍan is a time to fast “for the sake of Allah”, and to offer more prayers then usual. Some muslims may need more prayer then others I suppose – especially those who cut off heads of infidels. The Ramadan prayer times are quite organized worldwide. You can go here, log in your zip code, and find your Ramadan prayer time so I am assuming this is a Mullah-approved site. You can go here to find a Hijri and Gregorian calendar for Ramadan.
During Ramaḍan, Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance and help in refraining from everyday evils, read the entire Qur’an or Koran, and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds. As compared to solar calendar, the date for the Ramadan calendar does vary, moving forward about ten days each year.
The Islamic holiday of “Eid ul-Fitr” marks the end of the fasting period of the Ramadan holiday. Eid ul-Fitr means the Festival of Breaking the Fast; a special celebration is a good muslim’s reward for participating in Ramadan. Food is donated to the poor, everyone puts on their best – usually new – clothes, and communal Ramadan prayer time is held in the early morning, followed by feasting and visiting relatives and friends. The “Eid” falls after 29 or 30 days on the Ramadan calendar and signals the end of Ramadan.

Sterling Hayden
Sterling Hayden (March 26, 1916 – May 23, 1986) ![]()
was an American actor and author. For most of his career as a leading man, he specialized in westerns and film noir, such as Johnny Guitar, The Asphalt Jungle and The Killing. Later on he became noted as a character actor for such roles as Gen. Jack D. Ripper in Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964). He also played the Irish policeman, Captain McCluskey, in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather in 1972. Standing 6-feet, 5-inches tall (198 cm), 1 he is one of the tallest leading actors of all time.
Biography
edit Early life, education
He was born in Upper Montclair, New Jersey, to George and Frances Walter, who named him Sterling Relyea Walter 2 3 . After his father died, he was adopted at the age of nine by James Hayden and renamed Sterling Walter Hayden. As a child, he lived in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., and Maine, where he attended Wassookeag School in Dexter, Maine.
Hayden was a genuine adventurer and man of action, not dissimilar from many of his movie parts. He ran away to sea at 15, as a ship’s boy, then later was a fisherman on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland. After serving as sailor and fireman on larger vessels and sailing around the world several times, he was awarded his first command at 22, from Gloucester, Massachusetts, to Tahiti in 1938. 4
edit Hollywood years, military service, communist sympathies
Hayden became a print model and later signed a contract with Paramount Pictures, who dubbed the 6′ 5″ (1.96 m) 5 actor The Most Beautiful Man in the Movies and The Beautiful Blond Viking God. His first film starred Madeleine Carroll, with whom he fell in love and married.
But after just two film roles, he left Hollywood and joined the Marines as a private, under the name “John Hamilton” (a military pseudonym only; he never used the name outside the military). While at Parris Island he was recommended for Officer Candidate School. After graduation, he was commissioned a second lieutenant and was transferred to service as an undercover agent with William J. Donovan’s COI office. He remained there after it became the OSS. 6 7 8
As OSS agent John Hamilton, his World War II service included running guns through German lines to the Yugoslav partisans and parachuting into fascist Croatia. Hayden, who also participated in the Naples-Foggia campaign and established air crew rescue teams in enemy-occupied territory, became a first lieutenant on September 13, 1944, and a captain on February 14, 1945. He won the Silver Star (for gallantry in action in the Balkans and Mediterranean; “Lt. Hamilton displayed great courage in making hazardous sea voyages in enemy-infested waters and reconnaissance through enemy-held areas”), a Bronze Arrowhead device for parachuting behind enemy lines, and a commendation from Yugoslavia’s Marshal Tito. He left active duty on December 24, 1945. 8
His admiration for the Communist partisans led to a brief membership in the Communist Party. According to his IMDB biography, as the Red Scare deepened in U.S., “he cooperated with the House Un-American Activities Committee, confessing his brief Communist ties” and ‘naming names’. His wife at that time, Betty de Noon, insisted that the ‘names’ her ex-husband provided were already in the hands of the Committee, which had a copy of the Communist Party’s membership list. In any event, Hayden subsequently repudiated his own cooperation with the Committee, stating in his autobiography “I don’t think you have the foggiest notion of the contempt I have had for myself since the day I did that thing.” 2
edit Marriages, sailing
Sterling Hayden often professed distaste for film acting, claiming he did it mainly to pay for his ships and voyages. In 1958, after a bitter divorce, he was awarded custody of his children. He defied a court order and sailed to Tahiti with all four children, Christian, Dana, Gretchen and Matthew.
Hayden married Catherine Devine McConnell in 1960. They had two sons, Andrew and David, and were married until his death in 1986. Catherine also had a son from her first marriage, the journalist Scott McConnell.
In the early 1960s, Hayden rented one of the pilot houses of the retired ferryboat Berkeley, docked in Sausalito, California where he resided while writing his autobiography Wanderer, which was published in 1963.
In the 1970s, after his appearance in The Godfather, he appeared several times on NBC’s Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder, where he talked about his career resurgence and how it had funded his travels and adventures around the world. Hayden bought a canal barge in the Netherlands in 1969, eventually moving it to the heart of Paris and living on it part of the time. He also shared a home in Wilton, Connecticut with his family and had an apartment in Sausalito, California.
In 1986, Sterling Hayden died of prostate cancer in Sausalito, California, age 70.

Hurricane Bill Tracking Has Weakened Bill Approaching East Coast
Hurricane Bill tracking reports have dominated the week, and now Hurricane Bill tracking reaches its end. Hurricane Bill tracking now has the storm getting closer to land, although the ominous Hurricane Bill tracking is already over. Earlier this week, Hurricane Bill was a threat to cause

real damage as it headed for Bermuda and the coasts. However, Hurricane Bill tracking now has the storm about to merely graze the coasts, as its power significantly decreases.
According to Newsday, Hurricane Bill tracking now has the storm getting closer to Tropical Storm status. Yet Hurricane Bill is still set to create significant waves on the East Coast, causing beaches to close in Long Island and New York City, as the Atlantic’s first major storm reaches a climax.
At its peak, Hurricane Bill was tracking at a Category 4 storm, as it built up over the Atlantic. But as expected, the storm’s power decreased as it got closer to land, and is now at Category 1. By tomorrow, Hurricane Bill tracking should mark the system as a tropical storm.
Despite the breaking up of Hurricane Bill, the storm has caused a fair share of havoc already. Bermuda was hit with heavy winds and rain from Hurricane Bill yesterday, causing heavy damage, according to ABC News. However, Bermuda was not hit by the eye of the storm, and avoided the worst of it.
Current Hurricane Bill tracking signals that the storm is close to dying down. In addition to East Coast beaches in the United States, Canada’s Maritime provinces are in the greatest danger of getting directly hit. The Maritime is already on hurricane watch for the weekend.
Not only that, the President’s vacation is in direct danger from the remains of Hurricane Bill. According to the Associated Press, tracking has the hurricane approaching Martha’s Vineyard, although the Obamas still plan to stay there as their vacation begins.

63rd Little League World Baseball World Series Steps off With Annual Grand Slam Parade
The notes of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” meandered their way through downtown Williamsport, Pa., Thursday evening as the popular Little League Grand Slam Parade passed by thousands of bystanders.
Sixteen teams and 192 Little Leaguers from around the globe have gathered at the Little League International Complex to compete for the title of Little League Baseball world champion.
Eight teams from the United States and eight international teams have made it to their accommodations at the Creighton J. Hale International Grove on the complex.
The teams are ready to start playing at Howard J. Lamade Stadium and Little League Volunteer Stadium—the fields they grew up watching the Little League World Series on television.
“It feels great on TV, but it’s more exciting—you have more feelings—when you’re here in real life than you do watching it on TV,” said Hunter Phillips, playing for Warner Robins (Ga.) American Little League representing the U.S. Southeast Region.
It’s a feeling held not only by teams from the U.S.
“They were watching on TV, but now they’re actually playing for it,” Kuei-Shan Little League of Chinese Taipei translator Ming-Heung Yeh said, for players Cheng-Chieh Lee and Yuan-Ting Tai. “So it’s beginning to get really exciting.”
“Obviously it looks very nice on TV, but it’s definitely a great experience here. It’s a dream come true, especially for a manager who has a son on this team,” said Augustin Montoya, manager of Guadalupe Trevino Kelly Little League from Mexico, through translator Sergio Guzman.
The excitement among the players and coaches is about equal, but in the end, they say, it is about the Little Leaguers themselves.
“My mom and dad gave me a glove and a bat when I was four years old,” said Jorge Maldonado, one of Montoya’s players. “I’ve been looking forward to this ever since.”
“It’s really different because you never think that you’d be the person playing in that game,” said Santee Jackson, a center fielder playing his first year of Little League for Germany’s KMC American Little League of Ramstein Air Base.
The players, coaches and managers got acquainted with each other Thursday night with a picnic followed by the parade. Eight trucks carried the 16 teams through downtown Williamsport—one American team and one international team on each—to the sounds of welcoming cheers from both local residents and relatives of the players who had made the trip.
“It’s just so exciting because we’ve been living baseball year-round for years,” said Laurie Scieszinski, whose son Cole plays third base and catcher for Urbandale Little League (Iowa). “This is just so cool to have a whole town that supports it.”
Just like all the 11- and 12-year-olds playing for this year’s Little League World Series, they are in awe to be able to watch their children compete in person.
“I can remember my son being three years old and watching it with me, and he was excited about watching it,” said Laurie’s husband, Doug. “I’m like, maybe someday you’ll get to be here—and now he does.”
On Friday morning, the teams will attend a hitting clinic hosted by All-Sytate Insurance and featuring 2009 Baseball Hall of Fame inductee and former Boston Red Sox outfielder Jim Rice. Afterward, they will attend opening ceremonies at Little League Volunteer Stadium.
Then the games begin.
At 1 p.m., South Shore National Little League (N.Y.) will take on Mercer Island Little League (Wash.) to kick off the Little League World Series. Tha tgame will be followed by the first international game at 3 p.m. between Kuei-Shan Little League of Chinese Taipei and KMC American Little League of Germany; Urbandale Little League (Iowa) versus Warner Robins American Little League (Ga.) at 5 p.m.; and Peabody Western Little League (Mass.) against McAllister Park American Little League (Texas) at 8 p.m.
Liberty National Golf
Liberty National Golf
Proud to be hosting its first PGA TOUR event, Liberty National will be a revelation to players and spectators alike.
With the Statue of Liberty proudly standing less than 1,000 yards off the 18th green and the Manhattan skyline just a short ferry ride across the Hudson, there may not be a more magnificent, more unique and more unforgettable course in America.
Playing at an impressive and demanding 7,400 yards and featuring the same “A4″ hybrid bent grass greens found at Augusta National, Liberty National will prove to be a challenging test of golf precisely what the opening round of the PGA TOUR playoffs should demand.
The players will find that, with Lady Liberty as the target on several approach shots, they are not only playing a very important golf tournament they are playing it on a very special golf course.
